Transport development in Central Highlands province Dac Lac
Ha Noi, Oct. 27 (VNA) -- The Central Highlands province of Dac Lac has gradually developed its transport network to fulfill people's travel requirements, thus improving their living conditions.
As many as 650 km of highways and provincial routes have been upgraded. The opening of Highway 14 has significantly reduced the driving time from Dac Lac to Ho Chi Minh City and opened up shorter routes to new economic zones in Dac Rlap, Gia Nghia, and Da Min townships.
The province spent VND 303 billion from the State budget and people's contributions to build and upgrade more than 2,500 km of rural roads. As a result, 203 of the 204 communes in the province are new linked by motorised routes.
In the early 1990's when Highways 27, 14, and 28 were not opened to traffic, only 9 km of provincial roads were sealed with asphalt, accounting for 1.2 percent of the province's total. Nearly 23 percent of rural roads were sealed with the remainder being trails, taking a traveller an entire day to journey from communes to district centres and consequently, an autarkic production.
Dac Lac's population totals more than 1.88 million, one-third of whom are minority people.--VNA
