Ha Noi, June 2 (VNA) -- An "Anti-Drug Month Among Adolescents" was launched in Ha Noi on June 2 to raise awareness of the dangers of illegal drug use and to discuss preventive measures among school students, unemployed urban adolescents, and rural youth.

The campaign, that is to last till July 31, was launched in the presence of Deputy Minister of Pulic Security and Executive Member of the National Committee Against AIDS, Drug Crimes and Prostitution, Le The Tiem; Acting First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Hoang Binh Quan; and Minister of Public Health, Do Nguyen Phuong.

Following a parade of 2,000 young people, a task-force team dispersed to several residential quarters to disseminate leaflets and documents to people, warning of the dangers of drug use and providing consultation on how to keep away from relevant crimes. At the same time, members of the Youth Union organised cycling and games under a theme "Sports Drive Away Drug Crime", drawing in a large number of young people.

The move will be coupled with expanding operations of anti-social vices clubs, peer education, and "revolutionary songs and dances" troupes, which have so far proved effective in the fight against drugs.--VNA
