On May 29, 2001, MOFA'S Spokeswoman Phan Thuy Thanh answers question from Reuters: Please advise whether Hoa Hoa Buddhists will be allowed to hold a founders day celebration on 7 June?

Over the past many years, annual Hoa Hao founders day celebrations have been solemnly held by the Hoa Hoa Buddhist Representative Board in An Hoa Tu and Ancestral House at Phu Tan district, An Giang province where the sect was founded, with participation of tens of thousands of Hoa Hao Buddhist followers. The local authorities have always created favourable conditions for these activities to take place.
We believe that this year's celebration of Hoa Hoa compatriots will also be held in such a nice manner.
