Trade Ministry's solution to boost exports
Ha Noi, May 14 (VNA) -- The Ministry of Trade has asked the Prime Minister to support the export of rice, coffee, leather footwear, garments, fine arts and handicraft articles, aquatic produce, vegetables, fruit and meat. The Ministry of Trade hopes that this will took to boost exports in the remaining months of the year.
The Ministry will also increase market demand information the promotion of trade, and the opening of Vietnamese commercial centres abroad.
Forums on how to boost exports have been held for 1,500 export managers and representatives of foreign-invested enterprises in Vinh Phuc, Can Tho, the Binh Duong provinces, and Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang cities to encourage them to develop export activities.
Viet Nam registered an export value of USD 4.89 billion in the first four months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 17.7 percent.
The country shipped more than 1.13 million tonnes of rice abroad in the reviewed period, earning USD 189 million or year-on-year increases of 55.4 percent and 21.8 percent, respectively.
Other export items recording high rises in the January-April period included vegetables and fruit, up 150 percent with USD 118 million; aquatic products, up 62.6 percent with USD 506 million; coffee, up 43 percent with USD 180 million; and coal, up 35.5 percent with USD 36 million.
Crude oil took the lead in export volume and turnover in the period with 5.67 million tonnes and more than USD 1.1 billion.
Viet Nam plans to earn USD 16.76 billion from exports this year.--VNA
