Spain wants to cooperate with Vietnam on long-term basis

Ha Noi, Oct. 10 (VNA) -- Viet Nam is one of three Asian countries that Spain gives cooperation priority to, said Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar in an interview granted to a Viet Nam News Agency correspondent on the occasion of Prime Minister Phan Van Khai's visit to Spain from Oct. 8-9.

He said that the signing of a framework agreement on development cooperation which includes regulations on the establishment of a joint committee proved that Spain's desire for cooperation with Viet Nam is constant and long term.

PM Phan Van Khai visits Germany

Ha Noi, Oct. 10 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai was given an official welcome ceremony in Berlin, Germany, today, Oct. 10, the first of a five-day official visit to the country as a guest of German Federal Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.

After the welcome ceremony, PM Khai and his German counterpart held talks and had a press briefing. The two leaders briefed the press on their talks dealing with bilateral cooperation and agreements.

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai visits Spain, Germany& Netherlands

Oct. 7 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and his wife left Ha Noi today, Oct. 7, for official visits to Spain, Germany and the Netherlands.

WHO praises Vietnam's malaria control efforts


Ha Noi, Sept. 26 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's efforts in fighting malaria over the past decade have been highly valued by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Addressing a conference to review the country's malaria control over the past ten years in Ha Noi on Sept. 26, WHO Director for Western Pacific region Shigeru Omi noted that Viet Nam's malaria incidence and mortality rates recorded last year were lower than the targets set by the WHO.

Seven sentences for security destabilisation in Central Highlands


Ha Noi, Sept. 26 (VNA) -- Seven sentences of between six and 11 years in prison were handed down to seven central highlanders for having destabilised public security in Dac Lac province.

The sentences were announced at a trial held by the People's Court of Dac Lac province with regard to a case of destabilising public security in Buon Ma Thuot city and other parts of Dac Lac province in the central highlands in early February this year.

Kindergartens set up to protect children from floods


Ha Noi, Sept. 25 (VNA) -- Relief workers have set up as many as 510 kindergartens in the Mekong Delta in a bid to stop the deaths of children in flash floods while their parents are away at work.

Of the latest death toll of 155 in the delta, as many as 134 are children. The victims are mostly poor families where the parents have to leave their children behind as they go out in search of work to eke out a living.

PM Phan Van Khai calls for expanding overseas markets

Ha Noi, Sept. 22 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has asked Vietnamese commercial counsellors abroad to further expand overseas markets.

During his meeting with 41 counsellors in Ha Noi on Sept. 22, PM Khai encouraged the counsellors to find ways to boost external economic activities in line with Viet Nam's foreign policy of being friends with all nations, diversification, multilateralisation, mutual respect, non-interference in each other's internal affairs, and mutual benefit - for the interest of each country, the region, and the world.
