Vietnam Visa no longer needed to enter Phu Quoc by sea

Vietnamese people are indignant at the wrong and unjust decision of the US Supreme Court

On March 2, 2009, the US Supreme Court rejected the appeal by Vietnamese Agent Orange/Dioxin victims against American chemical companies over the use of the Agent Orange/Dioxin during the Vietnam war. US to maintain visa policy towards Vietnam

HCM City (VNA) – The US President Barack Obama’s new administration will maintain its national policies concerning consular affairs in general, as well as the granting of visas to Vietnamese citizens, according to the new assistant to US Secretary of State in charge of consular affairs, Janice L. Jacobs.
The US official made this statement during her visit to the USA Education Centre in Ho Chi Minh City on Feb. 10 as part of her first overseas business trip that aims to inquire into Asian consular issues.

Vietnam's reaction to Human Right Watch's report

On 21st Jan 2009, the spokesman of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry Mr.Le Dung answered to question regarding Vietnam's reaction to Human Rights Watch's report which accused Vietnam of the suppression of the Khme Krom community in the Mekong Delta:

This is not the first time that Human Rights Watch releases false information about Vietnam. It is necessary to reiterate that in Vietnam, all fundamental rights and freedoms of the people, including the freedom to religion and belief and the freedom of expression are clearly enshrined in the Constitution (Articles 69 and 70).

NA Committee for External Affairs delegation visits the US

Hanoi (VNA) – A delegation of the National Assembly Committee for External Affairs, led by its Vice Chairman Ngo Quang Xuan, had meetings with the US Senate, House of Representatives, government officials and business circles during a visit to the United States from Jan. 13-16.

At a working session with the delegation, US Senator Richard Lugar, vice chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, expressed his pleasure at the extension of the two countries’ cooperation in trade, investment, culture and education over the recent past.

Ambassador: Vietnam, US ties bright in 2008

The US visit by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in June 2008 marked a milestone, making Vietnam-US cooperation more intensive with higher quality, the Ambassador told the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in an interview.

US Senator agrees with PM on need to lift trade barriers

(VNA) The Chairman of the US Senate Finance Committee, Max Baucus admitted that discrimination in trade matters is a barrier that should be removed from his country’s commerce with Vietnam , during a meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi on Dec. 17.
Baucus reiterated his strong support for early granting of the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) to Vietnam and said he hoped the US president-elect Barack Obama would grant this sooner rather than later.
