Vietnam to implement UN Convention against corruption
Vietnam will ratify and execute the United Nations Convention Against Corruption as the country is determined to intensify fighting corruption.
In preparation for the ratification of the convention, a two-day seminar is being held jointly by the Government Inspectorate and the Danish Embassy in Hanoi on August 8-9.
Addressing the seminar, the Government Inspector General Tran Van Truyen stressed that the ratification and execution of the convention is an obligation of member countries.
He said along with the preparations for the convention's ratification, Vietnam has issued a law on corruption fighting, and recently the tenth Party Central Committee at its third conference issued a decree on preventing corruption and wastefulness.
Charlotte Laursen, Deputy Head of the Danish Embassy to Vietnam, said that fighting corruption would help uphold Vietnam's position in the world arena, and wished that the Vietnamese Government would soon ratify the convention to create impetus for effective anti-corruption efforts in all fields.
The Inspector General on behalf of the Vietnamese Government signed the convention in Mexico on December 9, 2003.
The Inspectorate was then entrusted to co-ordinate with relevant ministries and agencies to study and work out a plan to adjust laws in preparation for the convention's ratification in Vietnam.
