Ha Noi, April 22 (VNA) -- Comrade Nong Duc Manh was elected by the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV) Central Committee, ninth tenure, General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee.

Hereunder is a summary biography of Nong Duc Manh.

He was born on September 11, 1940 in Cuong Loi village, Na Ri district, Bac Kan province to a farmer family of the Tay minority group. He began his career as a forestry worker and joined the revolution in 1958. He was admitted to the CPV on July 5, 1963 and became an official member of the CPV on July 10, 1964.

SUMMARY OF PROFESSIONAL CAREER:

1958-1961: Attending the Ha Noi Agro-Forestry Secondary Higher School

1962-1963: Serving as a forestry worker, a forest investigation technician of Bac Kan province's Forestry Service

1963-1965: Serving as deputy head of the Bach Thong wood exploitation group

1965-1966: Studying the Russian language at the Ha Noi Foreign Language University

1966-1971: Becoming a student of the Leningrad Forestry Institute of the Soviet Union 1

972-1973: Serving as Deputy Head of the Inspection Board of Bac Thai province's Forestry Service

1973-1974: Serving as Director of the Phu Luong State Farm in Bac Thai province

1974-1976: Studying at the High-Level Nguyen Ai Quoc Party School 1

976-1980: Working as member of the provincial Party Committee, Deputy Director of the Forestry Service and Director of the Forestry Construction Company and then Director of the Forestry Service of Bac Thai province

1980-1983: Working as member of the provincial Party Committee and Deputy Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Thai province

1984-Oct., 1986: Serving as Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Thai province

Nov., 1986-Feb., 1989: Serving as Secretary of the Party Committee of Bac Thai province; elected alternative member of the Party Central Committee at the sixth National Congress of the CPV

Mar., 1989: Elected full member of the Central Committee of the CPV at the sixth plenary session of the Party Central Committee, sixth tenure

Aug., 1989: Serving as Head of the Commission of Nationalities under the Party Central Committee

Nov.1989: Elected on a supplement election as deputy to the National Assembly, 8th Legislature, and elected Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly's Council of Nationalities

June, 1991: Re-elected member of the Central Committee of the CPV at its seventh National Congress and elected member of the Political Bureau by the CPV Central Committee

Sept., 1992: Elected Chairman of the National Assembly, 9th Legislature.

June, 1996: Re-elected member of the Central Committee of the CPV at its eighth National Congress and elected member of the Political Bureau by the CPV Central Committee

Sept., 1997: Re-elected Chairman of the National Assembly, 10th Legislature; assigned to serve as permanent member of the CPV Central Committee's Political Bureau
