US Commission on International Religious Freedom Visits Vietnam

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on October 23 told a delegation of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom that Viet Nam is willing to talk with the US on differences on religion.

PM Dung welcomed the US religion watchdog delegation and reiterated Viet Nam ’s position of respecting the public rights to religion and non-religion.

He said he was pleased to see steps forwards in cooperative and friendly ties between the two countries.

Vietnam Wins UN Security Council Seat

Vietnam, along with Libya and Burkina Faso, was elected to a nonpermanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for 2008-09 on Tuesday. leluongminh.bmp

The three countries were unopposed and obtained the required two-thirds majority of votes in favor from the 192-member UN General Assembly.

Foreign Ministry Launches Website on Visa Exemption For Vietnamese Overseas

A new website on visa exemption for overseas Vietnamese was launched by the Foreign Ministry on Aug. 29.

The new portal in both Vietnamese and English will help overseas Vietnamese to better understand the State decision on visa exemptions and guide procedures to make applications for visa exemption certificates.

Application forms for visa exemption can also be downloaded from this website.

US Senator Says Vietnam Visit to Boost Bilateral Ties

US Senator Saxby Chambliss said he wanted to strengthen bilateral relations between his country and Vietnam during a meeting with President Nguyen Minh Triet in Hanoi Wednesday.
Republican Senator Chambliss of Georgia, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee and the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, also told Triet he was delighted at the important trade agreements reached between the two governments.
