While attending the 54th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Nguyen Manh Cam, head of the Vietnamese delegation, met UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan; President to the 54th session of the UN General Assembly Theo Ben Gurirab and UN Development Programme (UNDP) Administrator Mark Malloch Brown respectively, according to New York-based VNA correspondent.

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai visits Finland

VNA Sept. 23 -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai arrived in Helsinki, the capital of Finland, at 9:15 am (local time) today (Sept. 23), starting the second leg of his tour of four Scandinavian countries after a three-day visit to Sweden from Sept. 20.

The Vietnamese Prime Minister paid a courtesy visit to Finnish President Martti Ahtisaati, to whom he spoke highly of Finland's role and position in Europe and the world. PM Khai also praised the Finnish President's effective contributions to strengthening peace, friendship and cooperation among nations.

Five-day Working Week from October

Nhan Dan Aug 29--The Government has decided to carry out a five-day working week, starting from October 2 with two days off.

If a holiday coincides with Saturday or Sunday, administrative employees will have the following day off.

Beneficiaries are cadres, civil servants and people working in the administrative offices and socio-political organisations of the State.

If any departments of education and health sectors face difficulties, a six-day working week system will be still implemented until the first day of the year 2000.

Nhandan Aug. 26 --Vietnam has sufficient historical and legal evidences to prove its indisputable sovereignty over the Hoang Sa (Paracels) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes, reiterated a spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry in Hanoi on August 25.
