VN Tops A.T. Kearney's Year List of Most Attractive Emerging Market Retail Destination

In its 7th annual Global Retail Development Index (GRDI) study, A.T. Kearney, the global management consulting firm, has ranked Vietnam to the top of its 2008 list, bypassing the 3 year recorder holder, India, of the most attractive emerging market destinations for retail investment.

"Vietnam's leap from fourth in the 2007 GRDI to first place in 2008 was driven by strong GDP growth, changes to the country's regulatory structure favoring foreign investors, and increasing consumer demand for modern retail concepts." according to A.T. Kearney.

U.S. House Hearing on Agent Orange/Dioxin

On May 15, the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and the Global Environment, Committee on Foreign Affairs of US House of Representatives held a hearing on the impacts of Agent Orange/Dioxin on Vietnamese people and environment. dacam5.jpgCongressman Eni F.H. Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month Celebrated at Kennedy Center

On May 5th, Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month will be celebrated at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The event will feature the Asian American Music Society Chamber Ensemble and the Washington Erhu Association.

US Court's Ruling Erroneous and Unjust: VN Foreign Ministry Spokesman

The Feb. 22  verdict by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (New York City) to reject the case filed by Vietnamese Agent Orange Victims against US chemical companies which produced Agent Orange/dioxin is erroneous and unjust, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Dzung said Saturday.  agent_orange.gif

"It is arousing indignation among the Vietnamese people", Dzung said in a statement.

US’s Institute for Global Engagement In Vietnam for Informal VN-US Dialogue on Religion

President Nguyen Minh Triet on November 8 received Chris Seiple, President of the US’s Institute for Global Engagement (IGE), who arrived in Viet Nam to attend a seminar on religion and rule of law in Ha Noi.

During the visit, running form Nov. 1-9, the delegation – the third from IGE to visit Viet Nam in the framework of informal Viet Nam-US dialogue on religion - toured Lao Cai province to learn about the implementation of the Party and State’s religious policy there.
