FDI in agricultural sector in 2000


Ha Noi, Dec. 30 (VNA) -- The agriculture sector licensed 73 foreign-invested projects capitalised at nearly USD 1,437 million in 2000, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) reports.

Fifty-seven projects were granted loans worth USD 1,000 million and non-refundable aid worth USD 208 million for continued operation. The remaining 16 projects, worth USD 227 million, were signed in 2000 with USD 192 million of non-refundable aid.

Universalization of secondary education in 2010



Ha Noi, Dec. 29 (VNA) -- Vice State President Nguyen Thi Binh launched a campaign for the universalization of junior secondary education drive in Ha Noi on Dec. 28.

The Vice President asked the educational sector to renovate general education programme to ensure that by 2010 almost all of Viet Nam's people would finish junior secondary school before the age of 18.

The goal is based on previous achievements by the educational sector.

Job promotion in cooperative economic sector




Ha Noi, Dec. 29 (VNA) -- The National Fund for Job Promotion has since 1993 granted VND 166,899 billion to 1,543 job creation projects, providing jobs for more than 45,000 people.

The Viet Nam Cooperatives' Alliance (VCA) has been assigned by the State to manage loans granted by the National Fund for Job Promotion to the cooperative economic sector, and small-and medium-scale enterprises.

Prime Minister gave New Year banquet for dip. corps




Ha Noi, December 29 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai gave a New Year banquet for the diplomatic corps in Ha Noi. Together with the Prime Minister were his deputies Nguyen Tan Dzung, Nguyen Manh Cam, Nguyen Cong Tan and Pham Gia Khiem, cabinet members, heads of Viet Nam Communist Party Central Committee Commissions and Government committees.

Ambassadors, charge d'affairs and chief representatives of international organisations led by the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the State of Palestine, Sayed Al Masri, attended the banquet.

President Tran Duc Luong winds up China visit




Dec. 29 (VNA) -- President Tran Duc Luong has described his China visit as the successful materialisation of agreements signed by General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam (CPV), Le Kha Phieu, and General Secretary of the Communist Party and President of China, Jiang Zemin, in February 1999.

President Luong was speaking before leaving Xiamen, Fujian Province, this afternoon (Dec. 29), to end his five-day official visit to China.

FDI in Vietnam in 2000



Ha Noi, Dec. 30 (VNA) -- Viet Nam has so far this year licensed 303 foreign-invested projects, with a total capital of more than USD 1.9 billion. Besides, enterprises in operation have added USD 268.9 million to their investment capital.

This brings the country's foreign-invested projects to 2,601 with a combined valid capital of USD 35.47 billion.
