CPV- The Second National Party Congress in 2/1951



Ha Noi, April 12 (VNA) -- The Indochinese Communist Party held its Second National Party Congress in Vinh Quang commune, Chiem Hoa district, northern Tuyen Quang province, from February 11-19, 1951.

The Congress drew 158 full delegates and 53 alternate delegates representing more than 760,000 Party members. Representatives from the Communist Party of China and the Communist Party of Thailand attended the congress.

The Congress heard and discussed the political report presented by Comrade Ho Chi Minh.

Communist Party of Vietnam- First National Congress


Ha Noi, April 12 (VNA) -- Each Party congress was an important historical milestone for the successes, achievements and experiences of the Viet Nam Revolution.

A meeting to unify Communist Party organizations in Viet Nam under the chairmanship of Nguyen Ai Quoc (President Ho Chi Minh), held in Kow Loon near Hong Kong, China, from Feb. 3-7, 1930, was an historical event of the establishment of the Communist Party of Viet Nam.

Welfare projects of US NGOs, UNFPA, Denmark

Young people in Ha Noi and six cities and provinces have benefitted from a project on juvenile reproductive health, which was funded by the Danish Government and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Vietnam has 45 overseas investment ventures



Ha Noi, April 11 (VNA) -- Viet Nam now has 45 valid investment ventures in 13 countries and territories, according to the Planning and Investment Ministry.

To the 45 projects, Vietnamese partners contributed USD 11.7 million, about 40 percent of the combined registered capital.

Most of the investment projects engage in food processing, construction, commerce and services.

Vietnam's Defence Attache Office in Australia opens



April 11 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's Defence Attache Office in Australia officially opened in Canberra on April 10 in the presence of military and diplomatic corps from Australia, China, Japan and Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief of the Australian Defence Force Admiral Chris Barrie described the event as a milestone in the development of Australia-Viet Nam relations, particularly cooperation in national defence.

Vietnam exports 100 million tonne of crude oil



Ha Noi, April 11 (VNA) -- Viet Nam exported the 100 millionth tonne of crude oil on April 1, 2001.

The country pumped the 1st tonne of crude from its continental shelf in 1986 and began exporting crude oil in April 1987.

Viet Nam's export crude oil was only 5.08 million tonnes in the 1986-1990 period. The figure rose six folds to 30 million tonnes in the 1990-1995, and reached the peak of 60.5 million tonnes in the 1995-2000 period.

VN supports effort to complete elimination of nuclear weapons




Apr. 11 (VNA) -- Viet Nam has always supported regional and international efforts to achieve the complete elimination of nuclear weapons, Counsellor of the Vietnamese Permanent Mission to the United Nations, UN, Hoang Chi Trung said.

He was speaking at the 2001 Substantive Session of the UN Disarmament Commission in New York on Apr. 10.

IMF agrees to preferential credits of 460 million for Vietnam


April 7 (VNA) -- The International Monetary Fund, IMF, Executive approved a preferential credit of almost USD 460 million for Viet Nam's poverty-reduction and growth-facility programme for 2001-2003 on April 6.

The sum will be disbursed equally over seven half-years.
It is intended to help Viet Nam reform State-owned enteprises, the banking system and trade.
