Ha Noi, July 28 (VNA) -- "The second Ministerial Meeting on Mekong-Ganga Cooperation will be crowned with success, thus helping deepen the friendship and cooperation among countries in the Mekong and Ganga basins, for the sake of regional and international peace and stability and in the interest of our peoples' prosperity."

So said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Manh Cam of Viet Nam at the opening session of the second Ministerial Meeting on Mekong-Ganga Cooperation held in Ha Noi on July 28.

PM Phan Van Khai calls for cooperation in Mekong & Ganga basins


Ha Noi, July 28 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai has urged six countries of the Mekong and Ganga basins to work out concrete and practical projects to tap the two basins' potential for tourism.

The Government leader was speaking to the heads of delegations of Viet Nam, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar, and India at the second Ministerial Meeting on Mekong-Ganga Cooperation in Ha Noi on July 28.

Universalization of secondary education in 30 provinces & cities


Ha Noi, July 29 (VNA) -- Viet Nam plans to have 30 provinces and cities nationwide universalizing junior secondary education by 2005.

The target is a major component of the education and training programme for the 2001-2005 period which has recently been approved by the Prime Minister.

The programme also aims to have 30 percent of labourers in the working-age bracket trained, restructure personnel training, and boost the IT education at university and lower levels.

1. The Eighth Meeting of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) was held in Ha Noi, Capital of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, on 25 July 2001. The Meeting was chaired by H.E. Mr. Nguyen Dy Nien, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.

2. The Meeting was attended by the Foreign Ministers of all ARF participating countries or their representatives. The Secretary-General of ASEAN was also present. The List of Delegates appears as ANNEX A.

On 27 July 2001, after two days of extensive work, the Post Ministerial Conference between ASEAN and the Dialogue Partners (PMC) in Hanoi has concluded successfully. During the Conference, ASEAN met the 10 Dialogue Partners jointly and separately (PMC ASEAN+10 and ASEAN+1).

Vietnam builds ecological museum of Ha Long Bay


Ha Noi, July 28 (VNA) -- All-out preparations have been made to finalize a project to build an ecological museum of Ha Long Bay, that was twice recognized by UNESCO as a world cultural heritage in 1994 and also a world geological and geomorphological heritage last year.

The project, funded by the two UN agencies, UNDP and UNESCO, started working in July, 2000 to have an all-round assessment of Ha Long Bay's value before setting forth strategic and systematic measures to preserve the heritage and its ecological system.
