Vietnam Wraps Up WTO Entry Talks With Canada

Vietnam concluded bilateral talks with Canada Wednesday on its entry into the World Trade WTO_Vietnam_024_06.jpgOrganization (WTO).

A Memorandum of Understanding to this effect was signed in Geneva, Switzerland, between vice trade minister Luong Van Tu, head of the Vietnamese mission, and Don Stephenson, head of the Canadian delegation at the WTO.

Under the statute, the Inter-ministerial Committee on Technical Barriers is responsible for counseling the science and technology ministry on measures to ensure conformity to the WTO (World Trade Organization) agreement on technical barriers to trade (TBT agreement).

US Ambassador Optimistic About WTO Deal With Vietnam

The US Ambassador to Vietnam has expressed his optimism about the progress expected during the upcoming round of Vietnam-US negotiations on Vietnam’s bid to join the World Trade Organization.
Speaking to the media in Hanoi Thursday, Michael Marine stressed both Vietnam and the United States had narrowed the gap during their previous meeting in January.

Since then negotiators on both sides had maintained close relations and exchanged views on the phone or via email to prepare for the upcoming bilateral negotiation scheduled for March 27, he added.
