AFP: In a letter by President Bill Clinton to US Congress, it is written that Viet Nam is in the list of drug producing or major drug-transit countries. What is Viet Nam's reaction thereto?

Answer:

Viet Nam is not a country that produces or transits narcotic drugs and other psychotropic substances but a country that has to bear with bad effects of this scourge.

Answer:

Drug related crimes drop 12,6% in ten months



Ha Noi, Nov. 10 (VNA) -- The police force has so far this year discovered 9,430 cases of drug-related crimes and arrested 17,130 suspects, year-on-year decreases of 12.6 percent and 17.8 percent, respectively, according to the Anti-Drug Office of the Ministry of Public Security.

They confiscated 51.26 kg of heroin, 470 kg of opium, more than 2,080 kg of marijuana, 112,400 ampoules and 66,000 doses of narcotics.

Vietnam for US lifting embargo against Cuba



Ha Noi, Nov. 10 (VNA) -- Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Chau, Head of Viet Nam's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, has expressed Viet Nam's deep concern over the losses and sufferings caused to the Cuban people by the US embargo. He was speaking at the 55th session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Nov. 9.

Prime Minister said Mecong Delta Floods the worst in 70 years


Ha Noi, Nov. 10 (VNA) -- Prime Minister Phan Van Khai described the floods ravaging Viet Nam's Mekong delta from July as the most serious in 70 years now as they killed 453 people and caused material losses of VND 3,800 billion (USD 271.4 million), excluding damage to social infrastructure and environment.

The Prime Minister and his deputies, Nguyen Tan Dzung and Nguyen Cong Tan, chaired a conference to discuss measures to overcome flood aftermath and resume production and lives on Nov. 10 in Cao Lanh town of Dong Thap province.

A month-long campaign of information about preventing HIV/AIDS



Ha Noi, Nov. 8 (VNA) -- A month-long campaign of information about preventing HIV/AIDS will be launched by the Viet Nam AIDS Committee, beginning Nov. 15, in response to World AIDS Day (Dec. 1).

A press briefing was held by the National Committees for AIDS, and drug and prostitution and the Health Ministry in Ha Noi on Nov. 7 to introduce the campaign.

Viet Nam's fisheries sector in 10 months of this year



Ha Noi, NOv. 8 (VNA) -- Viet Nam's fisheries sector caught more than 1.73 million tonnes of aquatic products in the past ten months of this year, a 13 percent year-on-year increase, according to the Ministry of Fisheries.

Of the figure, nearly 1.16 million tonnes were sea products, a year-on-year increase of 12 percent, and 570,000 tonnes were cultivated aquatic produce, meeting 80 percent of the yearly plan due to adverse weather conditions in the Mekong delta and central provinces.

Vietnam-China joint working group on demarcation of Tonkin Gulf


Ha Noi, Nov. 8 (VNA) -- Members of the Vietnamese-Chinese joint working group on the demarcation of the Bac Bo (Tonkin) Gulf have affirmed their determination to fulfil their task this year as agreed upon by top leaders of the two countries.

Both sides, during their 16th meeting in Beijing, China, from Oct. 30-Nov. 4, continued their discussions on the contents and technical aspect of the delineation, and agreed to exert more joint efforts to reach the goal.
