VND 1,600 billion for scientific research this year




Ha Noi, Jan. 29 (VNA) -- The Science, Technology and Environment Ministry will invest VND 1,600 billion (USD 110 million) in scientific, technological and environmental research this year.

The money will be used to implement State-sponsored scientific and technological tasks, hi-tech, agricultural and rural development programmes, and to maintain and strengthen the State's capacity to manage scientific organizations and boost environmental protection.

Priority will be given the social sciences and humanities and the natural and technological sciences, including electronics, technology information, bio-technology, energy, infrastructures community health care and protection.

In its five-year 2001-2005 plan, the Ministry will build a scientific base, combine science and technology with socio-economic development, and take new step in researching and applying science and technology.

Scientific and technology consultancy and services will also be implemented in accordance with the Science and Technology Law.

Last year, science, technology and environment-related activities received VND 1,268.5 billion (USD 90.6 million) from the State budget.--VNA
