US surgeons give free treatment to Vietnamese children



Ha Noi, Nov. 24 (VNA) -- A surgical mission of the U.S. Operation Rainbow led by Prof. Michael Schafer of the Chicago Medical University has recently given free operations to 24 Vietnamese children with hare lips and cleft palates.

The operations have been conducted at the Viet Nam-Cuba Hospital under the Ha Noi healthcare sector.

This was the second time the Operation Rainbow conducted free treatment for facially deformed children. It will continue giving free humanitarian surgery to such children in Viet Nam in 2001.

Citibank grants 10 scholarships to Vietnamese students


Ha Noi, Nov. 25 (VNA) -- The Viet Nam Citibank (VNC) has granted 10 scholarships, each valued at VND 2 million, to the most excellent students of the Finance and Banking Faculty of the Ha Noi National Economics University.

The presentation ceremony was held in Ha Noi on Nov. 25.

VNC General Director John Becman said that this was the first time the Citibank has granted such scholarships and its scholarship programme would be further expanded in the next few years.--VNA

Asian cultural exchange in Ho Chi Minh city


Nov. 24 (VNA) -- People of Ho Chi Minh City, especially the youth, will have a chance to get the latest information on Asian countries and to boost the friendship and cooperation between countries in the region.

The city's Youth Cultural Palace and Union of Friendship Organizations are preparing a series of activities in response to the Asia Exchange Week welcoming the 21st century, which will be held from Dec. 3-10.

Vietnam - US e- commerce Joint Venture



HANOI, Nov 21 Asia Pulse - Vietnam's fledgling Internet sector has received a major boost with the launch of United States-Vietnamese joint venture MeetVietnam.com, the first international business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce collaboration in the country.

The US$1 million MeetVietnam.com, an intricate online portal that provides B2B services via wireless devices, hopes to provide some 30,000 private businesses in Vietnam with extensive new access to international trade via a virtual store front.

President Clinton concludes Vietnam visit




Nov. 20 (VNA) -- President William Jefferson Clinton of the U.S. and his wife and entourage left Ho Chi Minh City late Sunday night, Nov. 19, winding up their four-day official visit to Viet Nam.

In Ho Chi Minh City, President Clinton was welcomed by Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Vo Viet Thanh, who outlined the city's economic development and resolution of social issues, especially in hunger and poverty eradication and improvement of people's educational level.

President Clinton meets young people in Ho Chi Minh City



Nov. 19 (VNA) -- President William Jefferson Clinton and his daughter Chelsea met with young representatives of enterpreneurs, intellectuals and artists in Ho Chi Minh City morning, Nov. 19.

The U.S. President and his entourage arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, the second and last leg of their four-day official tour of Viet Nam, in Nov. 18 night.

The President was told of activities attracting the city's youth and the youth's role in and contributions to the city's social, economic, political and cultural lives.

President Clinton left Hanoi for Ho Chi Minh city



Ha Noi, Nov. 18 (VNA) -- President William Jefferson Clinton of the United States of America, his wife and his entourage left Ha Noi for Ho Chi Minh City this evening, Nov. 18.

A farewell ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Ha Noi in the presence of President Tran Duc Luong and his wife and other senior officials of the State, the Government, the National Assembly and Ha Noi.
