Vietnamese Leadership Sends Message of Thanks to US President

On July 19th, 2006, newly-elected President Nguyen Minh Triet and Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung sent a message of thanks in response to President Bush's congratulatory letter to them on the occasion of their election.

In their letter, President Triet and Prime Minister Dung noted with sastifaction the developing relations between Vietnam and the US during the past years, saying they have laid "a foundation for a constructive, friendly, long-term stable relationship for the benefits of our two people and contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world."

The Vietnamese leaders thanked President Bush for his personal support for Vietnam's efforts to integrate into the world economy

" We highly appreciate your strong personal support and that of the US government to the process of economic integration of our country, especially to our accession  WTO and the early granting by US Congress of the permanent normal trade relations status." the message said. 

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Pham Gia Khiem sent a letter to State Secretary C. Rice to thank the latter for her congratulations on his new post.
