Vietnamese diplomat calls US-Vietnam dialogue a success

(VNA) The Head of the Vietnamese delegation to the second US-Vietnam Political, Security and Defence Dialogue described the event as successful, effective with frank discussions on the issues of mutual concern.
In his talks with the Vietnam News Agency after the dialogue ended, Standing Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh said the largest success of the dialogue was that a mutual understanding was gained.
“Through the dialogue, the two countries have gained deeper understanding of many issues, which opens up possibilities for the establishment of bilateral cooperation in specific areas in the future,” the diplomat said.
He stressed that this dialogue targeted to materialise the statements made by the two countries’ leaders during their visits to each other in the recent four years to further boost bilateral ties.
“It is more important that the dialogue will help improve both sides’ understanding, thus contributing better to strengthening their relations in all fields,” said the Vietnamese diplomat.
He affirmed that Vietnamese and US officials will continue to hold the dialogue on an annual basis and will discuss the timing for the next year event later.
