Vietnam-US commercial transaction talks


Ha Noi, April 26 (VNA) - A talk on Viet Nam-US commercial transaction was held in Ha Noi by the Viet Nam Trade Promotion Department (VIETRADE) under the Ministry of Trade.

Trade senior officials from five U.S. states, Illinois, Louisana, Mississippi, New Mexico and Ohio, introduced more than 100 U.S. firms to nearly 100 Vietnamese businesspeople. These firms are getting involved in manufacturing automobiles, software and computer, civil engineering, and material construction, consumer goods, energy, environmental treatment and services, foodstuff processing, industrial chemicals, medical facilities, farming machines, plastics and others.

The talks was an opportunity for Vietnamese and U.S. businessmen to exchange information relating to markets, products and models, thus opening up prospects for business cooperation and trade exchanges between the two sides.

Two-way trade turnover between Viet Nam and the U.S. rose to USD 1.116 billion in 2000 from USD 222 million in 1994, to which Viet Nam's exports worth USD 830 million and imports, USD 330 million.

The U.S. is the ninth biggest investor in Viet Nam with 118 projects capitalized at USD 1.478 billion.--VNA
