President Triet expressed his belief while receiving US Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez and a mission of 23 US companies in Ha Noi on November 5. This is the first US Government business development mission to visit Viet Nam.

“Viet Nam is determined to create a favourable investment environment for foreign investors, including US firms,” emphasised the president. “Changes are being made to the country’s legal system in accordance with its commitments to integrate into the international economy. Viet Nam’s relevant agencies are willing to have frank dialogue with US firms and help remove difficulties while operating in the country,” he added.

President Triet thanked Secretary of Commerce Carlos and the US Government for their policy to remove barriers from the two countries’ trading activities.

He hoped that after the fact-finding visit, Secretary Gutierrez will make concrete proposals to his Government to abolish the monitoring mechanisms on Viet Nam’s goods exported to the US.

The US Secretary of Commerce expressed his expectation that US companies will find cooperation and investment opportunities in Viet Nam during this five-day visit which began on November 4.

The US not only intends to promote two-way trade with Viet Nam but also hopes to assist Viet Nam in personnel development and education in order to build a long-term partnership with Viet Nam, said the US official.
