Vietnam attends 76th Am. Red Cross Society Conference




(VNA) -- A delegation of the Viet Nam Red Cross (VNRC) led by its President, Prof. Nguyen Trong Nhan, attended the 76th national conference of the American Red Cross Society (ARCS) held in South Carolina from May 18-20.

Addressing the conference, Prof.Nhan expressed thanks to the U.S. Red Cross for its assistance to victims of natural calamities and Agent Orange and disabled children in Viet Nam.

While there, Prof. Nhan exchanged views with officials of the ARCS on cooperation between the two organizations, particularly on emergency aid for natural calamity control and victims of Agent Orange. He thanked the ARCS for having granted USD 1.2 million to programme 3 to help Agent Orange victims in early May.

The ARCS leaders agreed to continue developing and expanding its humanitarian cooperative relations with the Viet Nam Red Cross in the years to come under cooperation programmes on natural disaster control and on victims of Agent Orange.

Later, Prof. Nhan held working sessions with a number of non-profit U.S. organizations and thanked them for having helped Viet Nam in recent years.

Prof. Nhan's working tour in the U.S. marked a new development in the cooperation between the ARCS and the VNRC to solve war consequences and overcome the aftermath of natural disasters through humanitarian programmes and projects.--VNA
