US Fund for UNICEF visits Vietnam



Ha Noi, Nov. 8 (VNA) -- A delegation of the US Fund for UNICEF co-headed by its Deputy President in charge of marketing and development Diana Whitty and Internet Director Lori Sehroter started a three-day working visit to Viet Nam on Nov. 8 to inspect child protection and care in Viet Nam.

The visit aims to raise funds for the UNICEF-Viet Nam cooperation programme in the 2001-2005 period.

Tran Thi Thanh Thanh, Minister-Chairwoman of the State Committee for Protection and Care of Children (SCPCC), received the delegation in Ha Noi.

Minister Thanh thanked the former National UNICEF Committee of the US as well as the US Fund for UNICEF for its assistance to Vietnamese children, especially in building a model for preventing malnutrition among children at the community.

She briefed the guests of Viet Nam's policies and activities to boost protection and care of children through the SCPCC.

Mme Diana Whitty praised SCPCC's efforts in improving children's living conditions and development and said that the fund would focus its assistance on programmes on malnutrition prevention, education and safety for children.

During the visit, the delegation will make an inspection tour of Ho Chi Minh City and flood-hit provinces in the Mekong delta
