Repatriation of US Servicemen’s Remains
A repatriation ceremony of remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam was held at Da Nang International Airport, Vietnam on the afternoon of March 3rd, 2005. Attending the ceremony were representatives from the Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Persons (VNOSMP) and representatives from the US Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) and the US Embassy in Hanoi.
After signing the Process-Verbal, the Vietnamese Government representative presented to the US Government representative 03 (three) cases containing remains and personal effects that had been preliminarily examined in Hanoi and will be sent to Hawaii for further examination. This repatriation resulted from the 79th Joint Field Activities (JFA), conducted in the northern provinces of Vietnam during October and November, 2004 and the efforts of some local Vietnamese. This is the 95th hand-over of American missing servicemen’s remains since 1973, putting the total of repatriated remains to 829 sets.
Speaking at the event, the US Government representative expressed deep gratitude and high appreciation for the humanitarian policy, good will and the increasingly efficient cooperation of the government and people of Vietnam in this humanitarian work.
