Code sharing between Vietnam Airlines and American Airlines


To cater for increasing demands of air travels, on 3 March 2000, in Hanoi, two governments concluded the Memorandum of Discussion (MOD) on Code-share flights cooperation between On the basis of this MOD Vietnam and the U.S. Vietnam Airlines and American Airlines conducted discussions and successfully concluded Codeshare Agreement on passenger services between Viet Nam and the U.S on July 19,2001.

In the first phase, two airlines will codeshare through Paris (France), Osaka and Narita (Japan), then at a later stage extend this to their domestic networks. This agreement shall become effective as from July 2002, when both sides satisfy all requirements on operational review and obtain all required Governmental Approvals. This partnership will enable the airlines to strengthen their competitiveness, gradually foster market demand, thus making direct online service between Viet nam and the U.S. feasible in the near future.

By code sharing their flights Vietnam Airlines and American Airlines will provide their passengers traveling between points in Viet Nam and the U.S. with the most convenient services, and millions of Vietnamese residing in the U.S and the America will greatly benefit as well. Among other things, Vietnam Airlines and American Airlines will focus their cooperations in the fields of flight operation, maintenance, safety and security.

The new marketing alliance between Vietnam Airlines and American Airlines is a good result of cooperative goodwill and mutual understanding between the two sides. It will also foster greater economic and cultural relations between Vietnam and the United States of America.
