Ambassador Pham Quang Vinh met with US Senator and Congressmen

US Senator and Congressmen have spoken highly of the US-Vietnam Comprehensive Partnership framework during meetings with Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Pham Quang Vinh in Washington.

They included Senator Ben Cardin, Chairman of the East Asian and Pacific Affairs Subcommittee under Senate Committee on Foreign Relations; Congressman Steve Chabot, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific under House Committee on Foreign Affairs; and Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo, a member of the Subcommittee on Military Personnel and the House Committee on Natural Resources.

The Senator and Congressmen highlighted the progress in the two countries’ relations over the years and potential for future development, saying that 2015 will mark a new milestone in the US-Vietnam ties as the two countries celebrate the 20th anniversary of the normalisation.

They regarded the Asia-Pacific region as the US’s key strategic focus with ASEAN, including Vietnam, playing a significant role.

They stressed their view that territorial disputes should be solved via peaceful means in accordance with international law and the regional codes of conduct.

During the meetings on December 10-11, Ambassador Vinh discussed activities towards celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties as well as goals to bolster bilateral ties.

He expressed his hope for more support from the US parliamentarians for the development of the two countries’ relations for the interest of each country as well as for regional and global peace, stability and development.-VNA
