Vietnam Education Fund (VEF): More Vietnamese to study in US

 

Up to 49 fellows and six scholars will participate in professional development programmes at 34 top universities in the United States for 2012-2013 school year. 
 
President of the Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) Isaac F.Silvera announced the selection to the media in Ho Chi Minh City on June 13. 
 
The VEF Fellowship Programme and VEF Visiting Scholar Programme are two key components of VEF's mandate to enhance bilateral relations between the United States and Vietnam , creating educational exchange activities for Vietnamese nationals to pursue graduate studies and professional development at U.S universities. 
 
The VEF programmes will focus on the sciences, engineering, mathematics, construction, medicine and technology.
 
VEF’s Managing Director Lynne A.McNamara highly valued the intelligence and high learning results of Vietnam ’s fellows and scholars selected by VEF. Under the Fellow Programme launched in 2003, VEF has so far supported 424 fellows in graduate programmes to the U.S while under the Visiting Scholar Program, which began in 2007, 38 Vietnamese with doctorates have been sent to the country, she added. 
 
The VEF, established by the U.S Congress under the Vietnam Education Foundation Act in 2000, receives an annual budget of 5 million USD until 2018.-VNA
