Vietnam Pledges To Create Expat-Friendly Business Environment
The Vietnamese government is trying to get rid of red tape and corruption and create a transparent business environment to encourage more Vietnamese expatriates to invest in their motherland, an official said.
Speaking at a conference which ended in Danang Friday, standing vice chairman of the Government Office, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, exhorted overseas Vietnamese to trust the country’s reform policy and continue to contribute to its development.
“Vietnam’s fast economic growth in the past years has offered many opportunities for Vietnamese abroad to do business in their homeland,” Phuc told the conference titled Overseas Vietnamese Entrepreneurs for the Cause of Vietnam’s Construction, Development, and International Integration.
Attending the two-day conference were nearly 100 members from the Vietnamese diaspora in the US, France, Canada, Japan, and other countries, and some 50 local businesspeople and officials from 15 provinces and cities.
On the first day the participants pointed out shortcomings in Vietnam’s investment environment and suggested ways to improve it.
Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Phu Binh, also chairman of the Overseas Vietnamese Committee, said points raised by the delegates would be carefully considered to seek effective measures.
The conference set up a 17-strong board Friday for lobbying for the establishment of the Overseas Vietnamese Entrepreneurs Association.
Pham Nhat Vuong from Ukraine was nominated as head of the board. He will be assisted by five deputies – Pham Minh Anh from the UK, Pham Van Thanh from Canada, Trinh Viet Dung from the Czech Republic, Do Xuan Hoang from Russia, and Nguyen Thanh Hung, chairman of Sovico Group.
