HA NOI — The Huntington Beach Art Centre (HBAC) in California will present a new exhibit titled Out of Context, featuring Vietnamese-themed art.

The show, which runs from June 11 to August 7, will feature contemporary art by 13 Vietnamese-American artists living in California and Vietnamese artists living in Viet Nam. The exhibit investigates the wide range of stylistic choices, media and content found throughout the two Pacific Rim areas.

The range of works in the exhibition will include photography and photo-based work, painting on canvas and paper, sculpture and installation, and sound installation and video. The works have not been previously exhibited. The artists are Hoang Duong Cam, Fatima Hoang, Trang Le, Christine Nguyen, Nguyen Van Cuong, Han Nguyen, Nguyen Manh Hung, Nguyen Quang Huy, Nguyen Minh Phuoc, Tran Van Thao, Lien Truong, Hoang Vu, and Vu Dan Tan.

The exhibition is part of a series of cultural programmes supported by the US Embassy in Ha Noi in light of the 10th anniversary of the normalisation of relations between the US and Viet Nam this year.

The HBAC is a community arts and cultural centre serving Huntington Beach and the Southern California region. The centre presents the works of artists producing in all media. Through exhibitions, performances, film/video screenings, lectures and educational programming, the HBAC serves to advance public awareness and understanding of cultural, historic, and contemporary perspectives. The HBAC creates opportunities for local, regional and national artists and the community to share in a climate of experimentation, education and experience. — VNS
