Vietnam PM wants higher quality bills for WTO entry

Prime Minister Phan Van Khai recently demanded the process of making bills serving Vietnam's bid to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) be accelerated and of higher quality.

In his instruction, dated April 4, the government leader requested that ministers, leaders of government agencies and directors of the designated bill compilation committees strengthen their human resources and spend more time and money on making bills and ordinances so that they are completed on schedule and better quality.

The PM assigned the Ministry of Trade to keep ministries and agencies in charge of making bills and ordinances informed of requirements of the WTO and negotiating partners.

In addition, he asked the Ministry of Trade to coordinate with the Ministry of Justice and ministries and agencies in charge of making bills and ordinances to conform to regulations regarding the obligations for WTO members.

In line with this, the PM has instructed that legal documents issued by ministries, agencies and localities must be in accord with regulations on WTO member obligations and Vietnam's commitments to the world's biggest trade body.

The PM's instruction refers to a list of 22 bills and ordinances that must be compiled for submission this year to serve the country's negotiations for WTO entry.
