APEC report praises Vietnam trade liberalization

Vietnam has made significant progress in trade and investment liberalization, the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation, or APEC, said in a report at an Asian-Pacific states meeting Mar. 9.
Hanoi has taken effective steps forward in carrying out tax reforms and removing trade barriers and its controlling administrative system, said the report, which gave APEC assessment over Vietnam’s annual Individual Action Plan (IAP).

The report, which was released at the 2005 APEC summit in Seoul, Korea, also stressed Vietnam’s fast economic growth and improved living standards following the government’s economic reforms since 1990.

The IAPs, which APEC member countries are required to summit to the APEC on an annual basis, are seen as a strategic roadmap of APEC member economies through which they achieve free and open trade and investment goals.

At the summit, the APEC also evaluated the IAPs of seven other member countries.
