The Sixth National Party Congress in 12/1986



Ha Noi, April 14 (VNA) -- The sixth National Congress of the Communist Party of Viet Nam was a congress of inheritance and determination to carry out renovation.

The sixth Congress was held in Ha Noi from December
15-18, 1986 with the participation of 1,129 delegates representing nearly 1.9 million Party members nationwide and 32 international delegations.

Comrade Truong Chinh delivered the Party Central Committee's political report, affirming "the Party's resolve to renew its leadership in the spirit of revolution and science".

The Congress decided to supplement and amend some points in the Party Statute to suit the new situation, and elected a new Party Central Committee of 124 full and 49 alternate members.

The Party Central Committee held the first session to elect a Political Bureau of 13 full and one alternate members.

Comrade Nguyen Van Linh was elected the Party's General Secretary.

Comrades Truong Chinh, Pham Van Dong and Le Duc Tho were made Advisors to the Party Central Committee.
The Party Central Committee's meetings from the sixth Congress to the seventh Congress were held in December 1986; April 1987; August 1987; December 1987; June 1988; March 1989; August 1989; April 1990; August 1990; November 1990; January 1991; and May 1991.--VNA
