For thousands of years, all the nationalities living along the stretch of the land of Vietnam have had the common requirement to unite to struggle against natural disasters and foreign invasions. This has made it a closely-knit community - the great family of the Vietnamese nationalities - to build and defend the country. Unity is an age-old tradition of the Vietnamese nation. The legends about the origin of the Vietnamese nation, of the Thai, Muong, Ba Na, Ede and other nationalities, have described the Kinh and the highlanders as brothers under the same roof. In particular is the legend about mother Au Co, who gave birth to one hundred eggs, so the Kinh and other ethnic minorities people have the same mother, the same compatriots and the Hung Kings were their common ancestors.
