Thai Gov't continues strengthening ties with Vietnam

Ha Noi, March 7 (VNA) -- Thailand's new government would continue strengthening its friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Viet Nam, Thai Foreign Minister Surakiart Sathirathai said in Ha Noi on March 7.

The Foreign Minister, who held talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Dy Nien, soon after his arrival in Ha Noi for an official visit, also praised the active role of Viet Nam in the Association of the Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN. Viet Nam presently holds the association's rotating chairmanship and the visiting Foreign Minister emphasised that Thailand was ready to cooperate with and support Viet Nam in the job.

FM Nguyen Dy Nien welcomed F.M. Sathirathai, by saying that this visit showed Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's intention to boost bilateral friendship and cooperation.

Discussing bilateral, regional and international issues of common concern, especially ways to bolster the cooperation within ASEAN, the two ministers shared their hope that the visit would further strengthen the Viet Nam-Thailand ties.-- VNA
