IX Party Congress to rejuvenate its highest level leadership.
Ha Noi, March 24 (VNA) -- Ideology and Culture Commission Chairman Huu Tho says the majority of Viet Nam Communist Party's new Central Committee members to be elected by the coming ninth National Party Congress should be younger than 60 to reflect the Party's efforts to rejuvenate its highest-level leadership.
Mr.Huu Tho, who is also a member of the Party Central Committee, said the just-ended 11th plenum, second phase, of the Central Committee emphasised on the introduction of candidates for the new Central Committee.
"All Central Committee members to be elected by the ninth Party Congress must be best, representing the Party's will and wisdom and meeting high ethical standard," he said.
"It's an absolute not to introduce those who are opportunistic, greedy, ambitious, corrupt, bureaucratic, inefficient and irresponsible to the new Central Committee."
The plenum, held in Ha Noi from Mar. 13-24, also voted by secret ballots to discipline three members of the Party Central Committee for personal irresponsibility and reprimand Politburo member and Defence Minister Pham Van Tra, and Central Committee member and Chief of the General Staff of the Army Le Van Dung.
The plenum decided to convene the ninth national Party congress from April 19, 2001.--VNA
