High level delegation from VN attends Laos Party Congress




Ha Noi, March 12 (VNA) -- A high-level Viet Nam Communist Party delegation led by General Secretary Le Kha Phieu arrived in Vientiane on March 11 for the seventh congress of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party, LPRP, which was expected to open today, March 12.

Mr.Phieu and his entourage, including Central Committee Politburo member and Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Manh Cam; Director of the Party's Central Committee's External Relations Commission Nguyen Van Son, and Head of its Central Committee's Office Tran Dinh Hoan, were received on arrival by LPRP Politburo member and Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Samane Viyaketh and other senior Lao officials.

They were also greeted the same day by LPRP Central Committee Chairman and President of Laos, Khamtay Siphandon. At the meetings, views about issues of common concern were exchanged together with briefings about preparations for the seventh Lao Party congress and the ninth Viet Nam Party Congress.

Khamtay Siphandon welcomed the Vietnamese delegation, describing their presence at the three-day Lao Party Congress, as a great encouragement for the Party and people of Laos and a manifestation of the tradition of special friendship and fine solidarity between the two nations which had been built and fostered by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kaysone Phomvihane.

General Secretary Phieu expressed his confidence in the success of the seventh Lao Party congress. He said that with careful preparation, it would elect a new qualified leadership to bring the Lao revolutionary cause to victory.
The Vietnamese Party leader and his entourage visited the Kaysone Phomvihane Museum and laid a wreath at the Fallen Combatants Monument in Vientaine.

They met with LPRP Politburo member and Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Same Viyaketh at the Presidential Guest House in the evening.--VNA
