Vietnam targets 19,2billion USD in export in 2001

Ha Noi, Feb. 5 (VNA) -- Viet Nam has set a total export turnover target of USD 19.2 billion for this year, or a year-on-year increase of 16 percent.

Relevant ministries and agencies, representatives as well as representatives of export-import enterprises from all southern provinces economic sectors conferred in Ho Chi Minh City today, Feb. 5, to discus how to accelerate export activities.

Reviewing last year's export-import, Trade Minister Vu Khoan said export turnover reached USD 16.5 billion, including USD 14.3 billion from commodities, 11.7 percent above the State's target and 23.9 percent over 1999. The country had expanded its outlets to China, Japan and the United States. Imports also increased but were still within the permissible level.

This year, Viet Nam will maintain a high growth rate of export while increasing the export of industrial, processed and hi-tech goods.

The conference participants focussed on the stabilisation of export-import policies, promotion of business rights and simplification of export-import procedures. They also emphasized measures to expand export markets, support business' operations and provide them with more information about market demand.

Taking the opinions of business into consideration, the Trade Ministry will issue regulations creating more favourable conditions for exporters.--VNA
