Vietnam and Ku wait news agencies sign cooperation agreement




Feb. 19 (VNA) -- An agreement for information exchange was signed between Viet Nam News Agency, VNA, and Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA, in Kuwait City on Feb. 18.

The signing took place during the first meeting of the executive board of the Organization of Asian-Pacific News Agencies, OANA, and the Secretariat of the Federation of Arab News Agencies, FANA.

Signatories were KUNA President and General Director Mohammed Al. Ajeeri, and VNA Deputy General Director Nguyen Duy Cuong.

The agreement is intended to promote cooperation in information exchange, personnel training, support between correspondents and the supply of documentary information amd data.

The VNA delegation, led by Deputy General Director Nguyen Duy Cuong, attended the OANA-FANA meeting in Kuwait City on Feb. 17 and 18. The two news organizations represent 55 news agencies of 46 countries.

Delegations attending the meeting also discussed and agreed to orientations for information exchange; technical cooperation; personnel training and action coordination to expand operation of members of the two organizations.

They agreed to establish a structure for information
co-ordination to promote cooperation between the OANA and FANA.

The VNA delegation attended a special meeting of the OANA Executive Board held on this occasion to pass resolutions related to the exchange and sale of news on internet by OANA members. The meeting agreed to convene the 22nd meeting of OANA Executive Board in Bangkok by the end of this year.

Delegation leaders to the OANA-FANA meeting were received by Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Jassem Al-Khorafi, First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheik Sabah Al Jaber and Minister of Information Sheik Ahmad Al Sabah.--VNA
