Int'l organizations help Vietnam in education and health care

* Canadians Help Build Kindergartens in Six Red River Delta Communes

Nine kindergartens have been inaugurated in six poor communes of northern Ha Nam and Nam Dinh provinces thanks to the Canadian International Development Agency, CIDA,'s help.

CIDA through the Plan for Nam Ha has granted almost USD 1 million to build 27 multi-storey kindergartens in the six communes between 1999 and 2002.

They are An Noi, Boi Cau, Dong Du and Don Xa communes in Binh Luc district, Nam Ha province, and Yen Thanh and Yen Chung communes in Y Yen district, Nam Dinh province.

Nine other kindergartens are scheduled for completion in late June.

Besides, the Plan for Nam Ha has also coordinated with the Ha Nam education sector to open refresher courses for kindergarten teachers to improve their knowledge about nutrition for children and use of schooling equipment.

The Plan for Nam Ha has mean the investment almost USD 1 million in building primary and junior secondary schools in the six communes.

* FORD Foundation Provides Free Medical Services to the Disabled

Almost 200 disabled people in southern Tay Ninh province have been provided with free medical check-ups and treatment by the Viet Nam Red Cross with the FORD Foundation's help.

Tay Ninh is one of six provinces benefitting from the programme for the functional rehabilitation for the needy disabled funded by FORD Foundation and the Viet Nam Red Cross.

The province now has almost 10,000 disabled people. Most live in Tan Chau, Tan Bien, Trang Bang and Duong Minh Chau districts.--VNA
