VIET NAM-CAMBODIA INTER-GOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION MEETS


Ha Noi, Feb. 5 (VNA) -- The fourth session of the Viet Nam-Cambodia Inter-Governmental Commission for Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation was held in Ha Noi on Feb. 5.

The Vietnamese delegation was led by Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Vietnamese Subcommission, Nguyen Dy Nien, and the Cambodian delegation by Senior Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Chairman of the Cambodian Subcommission, Hor Namhong.

At the session, the two delegations reviewed the implementation of agreements signed between the two Governments and memoranda of understanding at the previous session.

They expressed their satisfaction at a further strengthening of the relations between the two countries, particularly the exchange of visits by the two nations' leaders and bilateral cooperation in economy, culture, science and technology.

The two delegations discussed orientations and ways to boost and expand the traditional neighbourly friendship and mutually-beneficial cooperation in education-training, agro-forestry and fisheries, water resource management and hydro-meteorology, industry, mining and energy, trade and investment, transport, civil aviation, tourism, banking and social affairs between the two countries.

They also discussed cooperation in searching and returning remains of Vietnamese volunteers from Cambodia, in ensuring transnational security and fighting crime, as well as in customs service and foreign affairs.

The delegations emphasised the importance of expanding cooperation and enhancing coordination of activities among ASEAN countries and at multilateral forums.

They affirmed the results and consensus reached during the fourth session which aimed to further strengthen the traditional friendship and mutual understanding between Viet Nam and Cambodia in the interest of both countries and of peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region.

Ministers Nguyen Dy Nien and Hor Namhong signed the minutes of the session.

The fifth session of the Commission will be held in Phnom Penh.--VNA
