" Peace village" helps many but many more need help

Jan. 29 (VNA) -- Excellent results have been obtained for 23 of 265 handicapped children admitted to a central Thua Thien-Hue province functional rehabilitation centre.

Results for another 69 children are described as good. But only 344 of more than 10,000 handicapped children across the province have been admitted, including many mentally handicapped children who are victims of Agent Orange.

The figures are part of a review of five years work at the "Peace Village - Hue". The village has helped the handicapped children rehabilitate themselves through the use of technical equipment and therapy.

The report says the centre has received 86 foreign delegations totalling more than 500 people, many of whom exchanged expertise with the centre. The delegations came from Japan, the Netherlands, France, Germany and other countries.

The centre has mobilized about VND 582 million to buy equipment and medicine but the report emphasizes that this has been enough to help only 46.7 percent of the province's disabled children.--VNA
