Vietnam wants to boost relations with Chile



The Chilean Deputy Foreign Minister Heraldo Munoz is on a three-day visit to Viet Nam from Oct. 24, made in futherance of the two foreign ministries' agreement on political consultation. On Oct. 25 he was received by Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Manh Cam.

Deputy PM Nguyen Manh Cam said he considered the visit a new development in the two countries' friendship and cooperation, and expressed his pleasure at the further development of the two countries' relations

Deputy Foreign Minister Heraldo Munoz expressed his admiration for the Vietnamese people's heroic struggle for national independence and reunification and his joy at visiting Viet Nam for the first time and witnessing the great achievements of the Vietnamese people in their renovation process.

The Deputy FM reaffirmed that Chile attached importance and paid attention to boosting the cooperative and friendly ties with Viet Nam, politically and economically. He held that the two countries shared favourable conditions and potential to boost cooperation for mutual development, especially in economics and commerce.

The Chilean diplomat expressed his profound sympathy with the people in the flood-stricken Mekong delta provinces and donated USD 5,000 to help them overcome the consequences.

The Chilean Deputy FM and his entourage were received by Foreign Minister Nguyen Dy Nien. They conducted a political consultation with a delegation of the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry led by Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Dinh Bin. They held working sessions with senior officials of the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
