Measures to restore agricultural production in Mecong delta

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on October 13 organised a meeting in Ho Chi Minh City to discuss measures to restore agricultural production after floods in the Mekong delta provinces.

Representatives of the Ministry of Planning and Investment; the Finance Ministry; the Government Office; relevant agencies, institutes, companies and the Departments of Agriculture and Rural development of flood hit provinces in the Mekong delta participated in the meeting.

Deputy minister of agriculture and rural development, Cao Duc Phat, asked the provinces to provide promptly and adequately seedlings and strains for local people. The flood stricken provinces should also quickly classify the essential irrigation works so that the State has appropriate policies to help local people start the winter-spring crops, restore orchards and develop animal husbandry. Prices of fertilizers and plant-protecting chemicals must be kept stable, said the deputy minister.

The Southern Food Corporation has to speed up the buying of rice in flood stricken provinces at a reasonable price to help decrease difficulties for the local people
