VISA NOTICE

THE CONSULATE OFFICE OF THE EMBASSY OF VIETNAM WILL, STARTING FROM NOVEMBER 8TH, 2006, PROCESS VISA APPLICATIONS FOR THOSE WHO ENTER VIETNAM FROM NOVEMBER 21ST, 2006 ONWARDS, AFTER THE APEC SUMMIT HELD IN VIETNAM.

Statement by the Vietnamese Embassy on Thuong Nguyen Cuc Foshee case

In response to questions from news agencies relating to the arrest of U.S. citizen Thuong Nguyen Foshee, the spokesman for the Embassy of Vietnam in Washington DC said:

Thuong Nguyen Foshee was arrested and charged with conducting terrorist activities in Vietnam at the order of Nguyen Huu Chanh, head of so called "Revolutionary Government of Free Vietnam", a terrorist group of which Foshee is a member. This group launched bomb attacks at Vietnamese embassies in Manila and Bangkok.

US, Vietnam discuss religious situation

Visiting US ambassador-at-large for international religious liberty, John Hanford, discussed Vietnam’s religious situation during a meeting Thursday with Deputy PM Pham Gia Khiem.

Hanford, who visited Vietnam on August 15-18 to study the religious situation here, stressed that the two countries should continue negotiations on this issue as well as others to boost bilateral cooperation.

Khiem agreed saying that negotiations to resolve differences over religion and other issues should continue to avoid adverse effects on bilateral relations.

US Secretary of State to visit Vietnam in late July

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will visit Vietnam late this month, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Dung on July 13.Rice.bmp

Ms Rice's visit is expected to take place after she attends the 39th ASEAN Foreign Ministerial Meeting (AMM) and the 13th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from July 24-28, spokesman Dung said.

Bill Gates Arrives In Vietnam

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates has arrived in Hanoi for a visit eagerly awaited by Vietnamese students and the IT industry.

He starts Saturday his one-day visit with meetings with Prime Minister Phan Van Khai and President Tran Duc Luong before having a dialogue with IT students at the Hanoi Polytechnic University.

Vietnam Denies It Granted Limited Visa To US Congresswoman

The Foreign Ministry's spokesperson Le Dung said on April 10 that Vietnam has never issued a "limited entry visa" for US Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez.

He said that Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs Committee Ton Nu Thi Ninh had extended an invitation to member of the US House of Representatives Lorreta Sanchez for a visit to Vietnam in order to promote mutual understanding and bilateral relations.

Investment Law Increases Attractiveness of Securities Market

The Investment Law, which was passed by the National Assembly late last year and will take effect on July 1, is expected to help strongly improve the investment environment in Vietnam by infusing a new vital force into the securities market.

With regard to the investment environment, the law makes an important contribution by forming a common playground for all investors on the basis of WTO principles such as the most-favoured nation, and publicity and transparency principles.

US Expects Long-Term Relationship With Vietnam

The United States wishes to maintain a positive long-term relationship with Vietnam, a US Congressman said Tuesday, expressing his hope that the two sides will soon come to an agreement on Vietnam's WTO entry.
