Ambassador Nguyen Quoc meets Department of States' leaders

Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dung on March 23 met with Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman at the State Department headquarters in Washington DC. The meeting was also attended by Derek Chollet, foreign policy advisor, and Daniel Kritenbrink, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs.

Ambassador Dzung expressed his gratitude to Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman and her colleagues at Department of States for their warm and sincere welcome. Ambassador Dzung thanked the US Government for donating COVID-19 vaccines to Viet Nam, and expected the US would continue to support pharmaceuticals and medical equipment, especially vaccines for children, to help Vietnam completely control the pandemic.

 

The two sides discussed priorities in 2022 to further promote the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Partnership, emphasizing the importance of reciprocal delegation exchanges at all levels. Sherman highly appreciated Vietnam’s role and initiative in ASEAN, and expressed wish to raise the ASEAN-US relations to new heights. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern. 

 



At the meeting, the US diplomats expressed their feelings for the country and people of Vietnam. Ambassador Dung briefed his hosts on Vietnam’s recent decision to reopen its borders, and hoped that Deputy Secretary Sherman, Advisor Chollet, Assistant Secretary of State Kritenbrink as well as other American friends would visit Vietnam as soon as possible.
