Vietnam-US political, security and defence dialogue opens

Vietnam and the US opened in Washington DC on June 8 the second strategic dialogue on regional and global security environment, security issues, humanitarian issues and defence cooperation.
The dialogue aims to increase the two countries' understanding of relevant issues, thus contributing to enhancing Vietnam-US bilateral cooperation in the interest of the two peoples and for regional peace, stability, cooperation and development.
The Vietnamese delegation to the dialogue comprises of officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Security and is headed by Standing Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh.
The US delegation, headed by Greg Delawie, Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, includes officials from the State Department and the Defence Department.
The first strategic dialogue was held in Hanoi on Oct. 6, 2008. Both Vietnamese and US head delegates to the dialogue, Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh and Acting Assistant Secretary of State Mark Kimmitt, shared the same view that the first dialogue was very successful./.
