Danang Has US Sister City

DCM-pittsburg_1.jpgAfter a period of various of cooperative activities between people of Pittsburgh and Da Nang, on the 2nd Dec 2008, at Pittsburgh City Hall with the witness of Springdale Rep. Jason Altmire, the President and members of City Council Pittsburgh, many citizens and news media of Pittsburgh, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl signed a memorandum to officially establish sister city tie between Pittsburgh and Da Nang city of Vietnam. Embassy of Vietnam Charge’ d’affaires Nguyen Tien Minh and some of the Embassy officials attended the ceremony.

A resolution of the City Council on this tie was unanimously adopted before the signing ceremony which said: “…a 10-year relationship has been built between the City of Pittsburgh and Danang through the efforts of The Friends of Danang in Pittsburgh and their volunteers who have enhanced the lives of many Vietnamese children and parents through fundraising for school buildings and bridges in Danang…the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance (PRA) is committed to the establishment of bilateral business growth benefiting communities in the Danang and Pittsburgh regions..it has helped to embody the goal of the Greater Pittsburgh Sister Cities Association by developing and sustaining cultural, social, educational and economic ties with Danang…”

The partnership establishes a formal basis by which cities can develop and sustain cultural, social, educational and economic ties with one another. "It is a great investment opportunity for businesses in Pittsburgh. It is also a great opportunity for the Vietnamese people to invest in Pittsburgh and to look at what we have to offer," said Springdale Rep. Jason Altmire.

For his part, Mr.Nguyen Tien Minh was pleased with the developing relationship between the two countries and the two cities. He expressed his thanks to the Pittsburg’s people, the Friend of Danang group, The Pttsburgh Regional Alliance and the City Council in making the event happen. He believed that with economic strength of Pittsburgh and enormous potentials of developments of Danang, the cooperative relations between the two cities would be much more strengthened in the time to come.

In February 2009, a delegation from Pittsburgh will visit Danang for a similar ceremony as well as business opportunities in Da Nang.
