Ha Noi, Oct. 12 (VNA) -- The third meeting of the ASEAN-China Working Group on a Code of Conduct for the East Sea was held in Ha Noi on Oct. 11 under the co-chairmanship of Viet Nam and China.

Participants in the meeting continued exchanging views on a number of issues relating to the draft Code of Conduct (COC) and obtained some initial results. They agreed to make further efforts to perfect the COC for early approval.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China share the view that the COC is an important measure in building up confidence in the East Sea region. It will help ensure peace in the region and strengthen friendship and cooperation between ASEAN and China.

Delegates reached consensus on basic principles: resolution of disputes through peaceful negotiations, non-use of weapons and self-restraint to avoid any act that might be detrimental to peace, stability and cooperation in all fields
