How to get a Vietnamese passport renewed (for expired or soon-to-be-expired passports) or replaced (for lost or damaged passports)?

 

Required documents:

 

- Application for passport renewal/replacement (download here). Children of less than 14 years of age shall have their applications filled in by their parent/guardian.

 

- Biography (click here) (not applicable for new-born applicant).

 

- 03 standard passport photos (2x2 inches): 01 photo to be glued on the application and 02 photos to be stapled with the application.

 

- Vietnamese passport OR a police report or self-proclaimed report for lost passport certified by relevant US authority (if any).

 

- A copy of US passport/US green card/US valid visa (if any).

 

- A money order or cashier's check for the fees made out to “EMBASSY OF VIETNAM”.

 

- A self-addressed prepaid return envelope (if you wish to receive your expired and new passport sent back by mail). To ensure safe delivery of your application package and new passport, it is recommended that you use certified mail service offered by USPS, UPS and FedEx with tracking number to check on delivery status. The Embassy shall not be responsible for any loss of documents due to insecure and uncertified mailing service.

 

Processing time:

 

Within 03-05 business days after all required documents are submitted (extra time may be required for replacement of lost passport or for further background check/verification for application with inadequate or inaccurate information).
